Capital: What are the main ingredients of modern business wear?

Hackett: In recent years, business wear has become less formal than it used to be. Key items for any well dressed modern business man is a tailored suit, white and stripe shirts, cashmere knitwear and a good pair of shoes.

Name a couple of fashion no-gos in the office – no matter if at reception or in the CEO suite.

Untailored trousers, bad shoes and creased shirts. No matter where you work, a creased shirt in an office is a easily avoidable and my fashion pet hate.

Please reveal the most important fashion trends this season that businessmen and -women need to know about.

Women’s fashion is a whole other ball game that I don‘t even dream in attempting to break into. A key trend for businessman for the Spring/Summer 2015 season is the lightweight double breasted suit. Worn in a light grey or a Prince of Wales check, its a striking alteranative to the traditional suit.

Which wardrobe essentials should be part of every man’s fashion repertory?

A navy blue blazer, a polka dot tie and a good pair of brogues

Which fashion item or style has earned its right for a revival?

The tie pin, it can completely change the direction of a suiting look. We have a great selection at Hackett with some featuring Sussex Spaniels, inspired by my dog Muffin.

Who is your personal fashion icon (living or dead)?

I often say David Hockney, because he doesn’t give a damn. He does, but looks like he doesn’t – shambolic! We made ten pairs of corduroy slippers for him once, in different colours.

Which (fashion) purchase do you hold near and dear?

A navy blue blazer, its man’s version of the woman’s little black dress.

"they do call me Mr Classic after all!"

Beyond the dress code: What is your casual outfit of choice when picking up the paper or walking the dog on Saturdays?

A knit jumper teamed with a pair of jeans and leather boots.

Your most regretful fashion „sin“ …?

I have never had one, they do call me Mr Classic after all!

What kind of fashion shopper are you: fancy boutique, the good ol’ department store or online shelves? Please elaborate a little on the „why“.

I am a market shopper at heart, I have spent years browsing in the vintage markets accross London such as Portebello Road market and Spitalfields market. Sadly many of my old favourites such as Greenwich and Bermondsey markets have pretty much disappeared.
